"If you don't have any haters, you're doing something wrong."
Not only is it funny, it's true.
When I have to deal with difficult, obnoxious people who hate you for ridiculous reasons (which is a lot XP),
I remind myself of this quote. Not everyone is going to like you but at least you can feel confident because they don't like you. They're jealous of something you have that they don't and they hate you for it. Whatever it is that you have, they must think it's pretty valuable so they're trying to tear you down out of resentment. Said haters only make themselves look bad as they continue their relentless onslaught and make themselves seem more and more immature.
Basically, if you know someone doesn't like you, they're more than likely jealous of you and that should make you confident rather than self-conscious. It's like the idea that "copying is the greatest compliment one can give to another". While it may seem obnoxious to the person being imitated, if you stopped to think about it, they think you're better at something and are copying you to become better themselves. It's almost a sub-conscious recognition of superiority. So, analyzing a hypothetical situation of one student bullying another, the victim is envied by the bully for some reason and the bully takes out their frustration on the person who they envy. Bullies want to make you feel bad so they can feel better about themselves and their lack of whatever you have that is out of their reach. For example, a bully who doesn't have a good home life might make someone who does feel like dirt because they're miserable and want you to feel the same. Hence the saying, "misery loves company." Victims of bullying can at least take comfort in that, if nothing else.
I'm a victim of bullying and it was confusing at first why she hated me so, but then someone pointed out that she was probably jealous. At the time, I felt like the person was just saying that to make me feel better. As time went on, I couldn't figure out any other reason for her to hate me besides that. I'm still baffled as to what she's so jealous of that makes her be so cruel to me, but now I at least know why.
I seriously don't know where that came from. I just read the quote and suddenly I spit this out. I sincerely apologize for being depressing.
